# Vault Viewer

> Read, edit, search and link the notes of a vault, see them as a graph or on a canvas, and export a note to PDF.

The Vault Viewer is the window DevHub opens on a vault. It has one window per vault. It reads and writes the same Markdown files that agents and Obsidian use.

## When to use it

- To read or write the notes an agent relies on.
- To find a note by name or by what it says.
- To see how notes link to each other.
- To hand a note to somebody as a PDF.

## Open it

Open **Vartari Vaults** in the sidebar, select a vault and click **View notes**. You can also add a note to [AI Context](/devhub/features/ai-context/index.md) from the viewer.

A vault opened from an organization shows that organization's repository vaults beside it, and a repository vault shows its organization vault and its sibling repositories. Each vault is its own section in the explorer, with its role and its access. A sibling's note opens as a tab in the same window.

## Notes, Graph and Canvas

A rail on the left switches between three workspaces:

- **Notes** (⌘1): the explorer with the folders and notes, and the open note.
- **Graph** (⌘2): the notes as a picture of their links. Zoom, pan, drag a node and hover to see its neighbours. The colour is the top folder and the size is the number of links. **This vault** and **All vaults** switch between one vault and the combined graph; in the combined graph each vault is its own cluster, and links between vaults are drawn brighter.
- **Canvas** (⌘3): boards in the JSON Canvas format that Obsidian also uses. Drag and resize cards, connect them, add cards, notes, links and groups, colour them, and undo. A board you open keeps the fields DevHub does not know.

## Reading, Split and Live

Above a note, a switch sets how it is shown:

- **Reading**: the rendered note only.
- **Split**: the source beside the rendered note.
- **Live**: one surface that renders as you type and shows the raw Markdown on the line where the cursor is.

⌘E toggles Reading and Live. Files that DevHub manages and the files of a read-only vault can be opened but not changed.

## Search

- ⌘O: a file by name or path.
- ⌘⇧F: notes by what they say, ranked, each with the line of the match.
- ⌘F: inside the open note.
- `type:decision` and `#tag` narrow the search and the explorer filter.

Search covers every vault of the window, with a filter per vault. It finds a note saved in Obsidian without a restart.

## Links between vaults

`[[Note name]]` links to a note. `[[Vault Name:note]]` links into another vault, and a plain name resolves there when it is unique. Agents are unaffected: their vault tools see one vault at a time.

## Export to PDF

In the menu next to **Copy path**, choose the export, or press ⌘⇧E. ⌘P prints. The page is always light, keeps diagrams, tables and code, lists the properties of the note as a small table and has the title in the header and page numbers in the footer.

:::caution
The window of the Vault Viewer has no screenshot in this documentation yet, and some of its labels stay in English in the Polish interface. The shortcuts above are the ones of the macOS build.
