# macOS asks to access Documents, or DevHub says a folder cannot be opened

> macOS guards Desktop, Documents, Downloads and external disks; Settings lists the folders DevHub could not read.

**Symptom:** macOS asks whether DevHub may access your Documents folder, your Desktop, your Downloads or an external disk. Or a banner says "One folder cannot be opened", and nothing in it is indexed or watched.

**Cause:** macOS asks before an application reads those places. If the question was refused, DevHub cannot read the folder, and an edit there does not appear in DevHub. A permission granted to a running application does not always reach it.

**Solution:**

1. Open Settings > MCP Server > **Folder access**. It lists every folder DevHub could not read and why.
2. Click **Open Privacy & Security** and allow DevHub.
3. Click **Check again**. If the folder is still refused, click **Restart DevHub**.

**Applies from:** 0.3.3

> **Caution:** Whether macOS asks again after you install an update was not confirmed. If the question returns,
> answer it the same way.
